“I can pick shifts to work around my studies” – Why students work at Home From Home Care

Work around your studies

Freshers week can be a time to let your hair down and celebrate the start of a new adventure at university. But it is also a good time to secure some paid work to support you through your studies and kickstart your career.

Far from bar work or retail, working at Home From Home Care allows you to make a real difference as you do something truly worthwhile. You’ll build skills, open up future career prospects and embark on what could become an exciting and rewarding career.

We also pay very well, with pay for all over 18s starting at £11 per hour. Combined with attendance bonuses, and our ‘earn as you learn’ reward scheme, you could up to £12,965 per year, working a 20 hour week around your studies.

We have a long track record of hiring students and we truly believe that we offer amazing opportunities, but don’t just take our word for it. We spoke to two Home From Home Care colleagues who are students at the University of Lincoln about their part-time careers.

“I didn’t want to just get a job for the sake of it, I wanted to gain experience and also do something worthwhile to earn money while I studied.”

Chloe Page is studying an MSc in Forensic Psychology at the University of Lincoln and she values the family feel of the Home From Home Care team and the experiences she’s gained. Chloe said:

“I’ve been working at Home From Home Care since April this year. I didn’t want to just get a job for the sake of it, I wanted to gain experience and also do something worthwhile to earn money while I studied.

“I had never worked with adults with learning disabilities before but the training has been great – everyone has been so supportive and I’ve recently progressed from a Support Worker Level 1 to a Support Worker Level 3.

“The team I work with feels like a family and the individuals we support are amazing, it’s a great working environment! I also get to choose my hours around my lectures and meetings, so it’s really flexible. I’ve learnt so many transferable skills and love working in social care, I’m excited to see where this will take me.”

“Meaningful paid work”

For Michael Ilesanmi, a final year Project Management degree student at the University of Lincoln, working at Home From Home Care offers more than just a job. He enjoys the flexibility, as well as the opportunity to develop his skills. Michael said:

“I joined Home From Home Care as a Support Worker in December 2021 as I wanted more meaningful paid work while I studied. It’s been a really flexible job – I can pick shifts to work around my studies and also get my transport provided, directly from my home to the location I’m working at.

“I’ve met so many people and it’s a really interesting role which has helped build my confidence and develop my interpersonal skills. I’ve recently progressed to a Settlement & Support Worker and I really enjoy every individual I support, giving them the best care I can.”

Rewarding part-time work for students

As well as providing a job role where you can make a real difference, build life skills and build a career, we also look after our team members.
