Our ‘Meet the Team’ series continues with Jacqueline Garriock, Assistant Manager for The Reeds based at Dorrington. Each instalment is designed to help you learn more about the people delivering exceptional care and support at Home From Home Care.
Jacqueline initially started working for the company through HFHC Midlands two and a half years ago, enjoying the ability to choose her shifts around her studies whilst at University. In July 2016 she joined Home From Home Care full time as a Settlement and Support Worker before being promoted to TRACS partner and more recently Assistant Manager.
What makes HFHC’s approach to care different from other care providers?
I believe that Home From Home Care’s ONE Team approach stands out above the rest. This is due to the intense focus on supporting one another; sharing knowledge, ideas, resources and staff training to continuously improve the service that we provide – keeping the guys we support at the heart of what we do.
What do you enjoy most about working for HFHC?
One of the things I have enjoyed most in my roles so far, is supporting individuals to move and settle into their new home at the Reeds – being involved in this process and watching them progress and thrive in their new environments is the greatest reward.
What has been the highlight of your HFHC career?
The highlight of my HFHC career so far has been supporting an individual to move into their new home and breaking down barriers that had been restricting the individual from thriving – when they arrived at the Reeds there were no plans for community access for at least 2 years, however within 6 months of the move, we had supported the individual to access the on-site sensory room, go out in the car for a drive as well as on walks and picnics in the countryside.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
I would describe myself as bubbly, enthusiastic & kind.
What is the most challenging aspect of your role?
The most challenging aspect of my role is completing paperwork. I very much enjoy actively engaging with the people we support and supporting them on a variety of activities, it is hard to drag myself away. I am currently learning more about the HR side of management as previously I was solely focussed on the people we support for my TRACS partner role.
How has Home From Home Care supported you in your career development?
Home From Home Care have been amazing with their constant support and encouragement to push myself to reach further in my abilities, and realise my own strengths – teaching me how to build upon these and working with me towards my goals. When I began my journey with the company, I never dreamed I could achieve progression to an Assistant Manager role within this time frame. It would not have been possible without the high levels of support available to me at all times.
