Regular training is essential to inspire and prepare Home From Home Care’s dedicated care staff, yet fitting in courses can be challenging when juggling family, care or study commitments. To help facilitate training, a new Twilight Training Programme has been set up to offer a more flexible option, which is also easier for night staff to take part in.
The new Home From Home Care Twilight Training programme maintains the high quality delivery of our day time training, ensuring we meet the needs of individuals we support and staff, whilst moving to shorter evening sessions.
The training sessions offer a condensed face to face course – maintaining quality by reducing the numbers attending each session, supported with online training to allow distance learning. The induction course still covers all core training content including: learning about the organisation and its core values, developing self-awareness, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approaches and First Aid. As with all trainees, a mentor is provided for new starters to ensure each staff member is confident in their skills and can discuss any issues they may have. Their mentor also helps them to plan for future career development.
One of our recent trainees said, “I like the flexibility Twilight training offers, it means I can fit in essential training courses around my busy family life. By attending short evening training sessions and completing online work when it suits me, it doesn’t impact childcare needs during the day. Twilight training has made it possible for me to complete the training required, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to go back to work.”
We are now further redeveloping the delivery of our Refresher Training for Night Staff, with on-site training sessions which can be completed before starting a night shift. This course is designed to keep staff up to date with the latest training, meeting the specific needs and challenges for night staff.
Every month Home From Home Care deliver 82 training sessions, ensuring our staff have the best possible basis to support their roles and ensuring they can progress with their careers.
