Meet the Team – Donna, Recruitment Manager

Meet the team - Donna

Our ‘Meet the Team’ series continues with Donna Richards, Recruitment Manager for Home From Home Care. Each instalment is designed to help you learn more about the people delivering exceptional care and support at Home From Home Care.

Donna is originally from South Africa and moved to the UK in her teens. She began her career in recruitment when she lived in Melbourne, Australia for three years before returning to the UK.

How does recruitment differ at Home From Home Care?

We use valued based interview questioning to learn more about potential new employees and their suitability to work with the individuals we support. Learning disability experience is great but having the right values is far more important as there are so many development opportunities and the training we provide is exemplary.

I really enjoy recruitment at HFHC. It’s an extremely rewarding role. I enjoy spending time in the homes with individuals and working to make a positive difference to people’s lives.

How can candidates prepare for their interview at HFHC?

Come to the interview prepared. Learn more about Home From Home Care – do your research, the motivation behind the organisation is key to everything we do here, you can listen to Paul, Ann and Hugo speak about this on www.createdbyparents.com. Try to think of some questions you have about the role and company – an interview is also about you finding out if we are a good fit for you.

What is a typical interview like at HFHC?

The interview takes place in the individuals’ home. This gives you the chance to meet individuals and staff members you will work with. We will ask you lots of questions about yourself and your experience, as well as how you might approach situations.

How are individuals involved in the interview process?

We have a number of Recruitment Partners from across HFHC, these individuals have undergone training to support their participation in the interview process. They will ask you their own questions and their feedback is a crucial part of selection.

What do you look for in candidates?

The right values, positive attitude and a good work ethic.

What is the most difficult question you ask in interviews for HFHC?

It seems like a fairly straight forward question but candidates always struggle when asked to describe their personality. It can be difficult to talk about yourself during an interview, but this isn’t a trick question. We do our best during the interview process to learn as much as we possibly can about you so that we can match you with individuals – everyone has different preferences for their support, there isn’t a ‘right’ answer!

Name three words which describe you:

Outgoing, Independent, Reliable
