Home From Home Care’s Pirate-Themed May Ball Was a Swashbuckling Success!

Home From Home Care May Ball 2026

Home From Home Care’s annual May Ball returned in spectacular style this year, bringing together the individuals we support, families and colleagues for a pirate-themed celebration at The Exo Centre in Lincoln.

The venue was transformed into a swashbuckling pirate hideaway, complete with nautical props, treasure-filled activities, themed entertainment and a lively party atmosphere that welcomed everyone aboard!

Involvement at every stage

The May Ball is a truly collaborative event; with individuals involved in every stage. From voting on the theme to creating decorations, props and games in Activity Hub sessions, shaping the event and bringing it to life each year.

Packed with pirate adventure, everyone enjoyed treasure hunts, crafting, scavenger trails and hoopla games. There was even the chance to “walk the plank”! A huge highlight was welcoming Animals UK back to the May Ball, bringing along a wonderful selection of animals to meet. From meerkats, owls and bunnies to tortoises, snakes and even tarantulas – everyone enjoyed getting up close and personal with some truly fascinating creatures!

Live music & entertainment

Claire, TRACS Wellbeing Manager, said:

“We’ve had loads of activities here today…everybody loves these events.”

Music and live entertainment kept the celebrations going, with a pirate show, sea-shanty singalongs and drumming sessions creating a fantastic atmosphere and bringing everyone together.

Steve, Personal Support Worker Driver, shared:

“The May Ball benefits everybody…it’s the opportunity of all getting together and just having a good time!”

Guests also enjoyed a fantastic range of food – including fish and chips, hog roast and gyros, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.

A supportive community

For many families, the May Ball is about much more than just a celebration. It’s an opportunity to connect with others, spend quality time together and feel part of a wider supportive community.

One parent said:

“It’s nice to see everyone enjoying themselves and coming together – it really feels like there’s a big community.”

Another added:

“We all love the experience of coming here…it’s wonderful to be included.”

Inclusivity & connection

Events like the May Ball reflect Home From Home Care’s commitment to creating meaningful, inclusive experiences for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs, while also bringing together families, friends and colleagues who support them.

A low intensity session was also offered to enable the individuals that we support with autism and severe learning disabilities to be able to connect and engage with the event in a way that suits their sensory needs.

The May Ball was made possible thanks to a huge ONE TEAM effort, with colleagues across Home From Home Care working together for many months to create another unforgettable celebration. From pirate adventures and live entertainment to animal encounters, laughter and dancing, this year’s May Ball was another fantastic success. We’re already looking forward to next year!
