PLATINUM IIP AWARD FOR CARE PROVIDER HIT BY COVID

Platinum Award

Home From Home Care has become one of just 150 international companies to receive the prestigious Platinum award from Investors in People (IIP).  Platinum is especially welcome following an earlier Covid outbreak in one of the company’s homes where 90% of residents and 70% of the staff team tested positive.

“In a month of lows from Covid and highs from having just been voted best UK care home group 2020 at the National Care Awards, gaining Platinum from Investors In People is just fantastic” Paul de Savary, Home From Home Care’s Managing Director says.

“Platinum is a fitting description for our incredible ONE TEAM approach to care. Continuously investing in our amazing staff and unique data driven model of care over so many years, proves the point that transparency and collaborative working produces the best results for those vulnerable and complex individuals that we are privileged to support”.

Platinum is the highest level of recognition possible to achieve on IIP’s We Invest in People accreditation, with Home From Home Care only one of six healthcare providers to have achieved it.

The report heralded Home From Home Care: “a pioneer organisation” which is “constantly innovating”, showing that “inspirational leadership can create a growth mind-set culture where people collectively strive to do the best they can for the individuals and provide exceptional care and experiences for them”.

The cutting-edge data driven Zone Standard IT platform was also highlighted throughout the report, enabling real-time information to be shared quickly across the service and wider organisation. The report cited Home From Home Care as a “national leader in the use of digital technology to bring ‘Enhanced Human Intelligence’ to the way you deliver your services and lead, manage and develop your people.”

Across their framework, Investors in People have nine performance indicators, with 108 standards to be met – ranging from leading and inspiring people to creating sustainable success. To achieve Platinum, organisations must meet 102 standards – Home From Home Care are proud to have met the full 108.

NOTES TO EDITORS

Home From Home Care is the UK’s largest family-led specialist residential care provider, supporting over 80 individuals with learning disabilities including those with autism and associated complex health and mental health.

Paul and Ann de Savary and son Hugo created Home From Home Care, driven by wanting to provide the best possible care for Laura, their daughter and Hugo’s sister, who was born with complex needs.

Home From Home Care opened its first specialist residential care service, ‘The Old Hall’ in Fiskerton, in 2005, initially employing 25 staff – today the company employs over 400 staff across 11 registered homes in Lincolnshire. 9 of its 11 services are rated Outstanding by CQC, 20 times the national average.

Earlier this month, The Old Vicarage in Stallingborough experienced a COVID-19 outbreak and with 90% of residents and 70% of the staff team testing positive, this hit national and regional headlines due to the pressures the outbreak put on staffing levels, with Home From Home Care campaigning for a balanced-risk approach of using asymptomatic staff to support COVID-positive residents in a completely controlled and managed way.

This coincided with the Public Health England report authored by Professor Gyles Glover which established the shocking fact that individuals with learning disabilities aged 18 to 35 were 30 times more likely to die from Covid-19; and that known staff were critical as they could better understand what an individual was trying to convey or experiencing.

The wider context is the fact that KNOWN staff are critical to Home From Home Care’s support for the most complex individuals, many of whom took 6 months to transition into Home From Home Care from hospital settings, so as to get to know their new staff over a prolonged and necessary period. Unknown staff in place of asymptomatic staff could have devastating effects on these individuals.
