Christmas is such a special time of year and we all have our own traditions, tastes and preferences – and it’s no different for the individuals we support.
Everyone’s Christmas is completely unique, so we go above and beyond to make sure the individuals we support have the most amazing time over the festive season, because that really is what it’s all about!
For many, that means quality time with their loved ones and having lots of fun. And for those who don’t go home to their families, we are their extended family – so it’s no wonder that so many colleagues chose to work over Christmas as they too want to share in the spirit of the season.
Everyone has different needs and requirements, and for some individuals, faith and religion are also important, so we work with each individual and their families to help them have the best Christmas possible.
Every year, there’s a jam-packed schedule of events within our homes and out and about in the wider community to bring joy and spread festive cheer.
A Home From Home Care Christmas
As well as picking Christmas trees (the biggest ones we could possibly find, obviously) for the Social Care Exchange and for our Christmas Light switch-on in Bardney, everyone’s been busy making Christmas bakes and crackers and even making cards and presents for family and friends at our very own Elves’ Workshop.
There are also some low intensity activities too, such as animal handling and everyone’s favourite – Boogie Bingo (with everyone singing along…)!
Did you know… we also record a Christmas single each year? – This time, colleagues and the individuals they support have recorded a special rendition of Santa Claus is Coming to Town and there’s even a music video to go with it!
One of the highlights is our big Home From Home Care Christmas Party, which has a Santa’s Grotto and DJ Bernie’s festive disco. There’s also a performance from Lincoln Brass Band and some *friendly* competition – so, who HAS made the best wreath?
We’re all looking forward to our carol service, taking place in the lovely village of Stallingborough this year – and everyone is welcome, the more the merrier!
We’re hugely excited for our Elf Hunt around Bardney, as well as hiding Random Acts of Kindness – where our individuals will be hanging homemade decorations in secret places around Dorrington and Ruskington for people out and about in the community to enjoy. Come Christmas Eve, there’ll also be lots of Christmas games and movies for us all to enjoy.
Our award-winning Chef Darren will then be cooking a delicious Christmas Lunch which will be delivered to all homes – including turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets and ALLLLLL the trimmings!
Our colleagues love Christmas with us too
“I really enjoy working over Christmas to support our individuals – it is SO much fun and great to be a part of. It’s so rewarding to spend time with our supported individuals and ensure that they have an amazing Christmas.
“Working in care is so fulfilling, especially over the festive period. We do everything we can to make sure that each individual gets a bespoke Christmas that best accommodates their needs and wishes. I can’t wait for another Christmas with Home From Home Care!”
Claire, TRACS Wellbeing Manager, Home From Home Care Colleague
Whatever their background, religion or traditions, we’ll always make sure that the individuals we support have the most amazing Christmas – which is all thanks to our dedicated colleagues in our amazing ONE TEAM!
